Verse 1

It was an unholy sad affair. Mother dumbstruck, standing there.

Husband darling had seen it all. The crying, the screaming, the fall.

So, she ran as far as she could; to hide from the scythe and hood.

She was deaf to maternal heart, misunderstanding her role, her part.

Sad affair, it was a sad affair. A sad affair. An unholy sad affair_

Verse 2

Well the papers made quite a splash; and were pleased with their wads of cash.

Now her mind was playing weird games. The world a prison of flames.

The cameras kept making up lies. So, she hid from those prying eyes.

And when her darling came offering a hand; she'd departed this once healthy land.

Sad affair, it was a sad affair. A sad affair. An unholy sad affair_

Verse 3

The stallion had taken the life. The father had turned to his wife.

But ‘mother’ had died there as well; a proud but empty shell.

Now she lives in a world of her own. Her son, so clever, so grown.

Still riding that stallion so tall; but knowing he'll never fall.

Sad affair, it was a sad affair. A sad affair. An unholy sad affair_

Middle 8

And the priest explained to the crowd. Self-important and certain and loud.

How God had punished them all. Not explaining a thing at all.

The Lord moves in mysterious ways. She was cursed for the rest of her days.

How the Lord loves the children that pray; only they go to Heaven one day.

Verse 4

Her darling still loves her up close; provided she takes the right dose -

to defeat her demons and stall... the crying, the screaming, the fall.

It's an unholy sad affair; forgotten-in-their-own despair...

bewildered and all alone; their daughter left standing there...

Sad affair, it was a sad affair. A sad affair. An unholy sad affair_

Sad affair, it was a sad affair. A sad affair. An unholy sad affair_
