And the Sun Rose Red Behind Her

Verse 1
A song from the past made me walk very fast
Deep in the woods ever darker
Unknowingly kept a rendezvous, whispered prayers to father
A sound from behind, shadow in the sky, a stallion made me start
Then looking down - from up high, her eyes bore through my heart
Chorus
And the sun rose red behind her
Yet she deigned me a gentle smile
And the horse steamed in the cold, cold wind
I was frozen, speechless for a while
Yes, I was frozen, speechless, for a while
Verse 2
She wore a feminine shirt, a heavy cloth skirt
Petticoat trimmed with lace
Steel edged boots of leather, - curls around her face
She asked me if I knew my way, not asking me direction
And truthfully, I couldn't say but felt a deep connection
Chorus
And the sun rose red behind her
Yet she deigned me a gentle smile
And the horse steamed in the cold, cold wind
I was frozen, speechless for a while
Yes, I was frozen, speechless, for a while
Verse 3
The horse sidled closer, and she leaned down to speak
I heard the creaking leather, my heart beat so weak
No-one knew I walked that mile, an old man so frail
And no-one saw my last broad smile or followed the stallion’s trail!
Chorus
And the sun rose red behind her
Yet she deigned me a gentle smile
And the horse steamed in the cold, cold wind
I was frozen, speechless, for a while
Yes, I was frozen, speechless for a while
